A Journey Toward Unity through Sound, Spirit, and Community
ONE is a multidisciplinary album and performance project that explores the spiritual and human dimensions of unity through music, movement, and word. The work blends Afro-Latin jazz, Indian, and funk traditions with spoken word, dance, and visual art, becoming a living conversation — a musical call to remember that we are one body with many parts.

The album explores a wide sonic landscape, moving from quartet to the power of a full big band, interwoven with community voices, dance, and video — creating a multisensory experience that reflects the beauty and interconnectedness of all people. These community voices emerge from true conversations with individuals from local, national, and internationally diverse communities — an opportunity to explore ideas on unity collectively and honor the wisdom that lives in every corner of our shared world.

The New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band, along with guest composers, musicians, choreographers, and spoken word artists, will bring ONE to life through recordings, workshops, and live performances that invite audiences to listen deeply and participate in a shared journey toward harmony.

NEW YORK AFRO BOP ALLIANCE BIG BAND
The New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band (NYABABB) is an Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble based in New York City. Founded and led by drummer Joe McCarthy, the band is comprised of NYC's finest musicians. Hailed by Downbeat Magazine as “a torchbearer of the genre’s storied history and one of its fiercest innovators,” NYABABB has sustained a noted presence on the Afro-Latin scene for 25 years.​​​

The band's music draws from the great bebop tradition, married to the rich rhythmic stylings of Afro-Caribbean music. Their extensive catalog of music features the writing and composing talents of Joe McCarthy, Vince Norman, and other members of the band. NYABABB has collaborated with renowned artists such as Paquito D' Rivera, and Dave Samuels, among others.

NYABABB's achievements include winning the Latin Jazz Album of the Year at the 2008 Latin Grammy Awards® for their recording "Afro Bop Alliance featuring Dave Samuels," which was also nominated for a Grammy® in the same category. The band has earned multiple Wammie Awards for Best Latin Ensemble, Best Latin Recording, and Best Big Band Recording.​​
